Baring a major change by the voters, Richard “Richie” Neal (D-Springfield) will be re-elected to Congress from the new 1st District.
Mr. Neal was in Pittsfield last week to meet with local Democrats at DelGallo’s restaurant at 390 Newell St. Remo “Ray “DelGallo, former Pittsfield mayor, served as the party host.
The Congressman noted the tie-in between Hampden and Berkshire counties with the $150 million Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center in Holyoke.
Berkshire County has for 52 years been connected to the rest of the commonwealth via the Massachusetts Turnpike.
Tomorrow, if plans come to fruition, a new high speed data line will be installed throughout the four western Massachusetts counties to serve both town buildings and homes-many of which have been set up as home businesses.
President Barack Obama has pushed new technology to reach rural America.
On the eve of the kickoff of their 2012 National Convention, the Democrats released their party highlights and what they feel are examples of the Obama administration’s efforts to protect user privacy – the launch of the Internet Privacy Bill of Rights and the encouragement of Do Not Track options.
They also tout the president’s commitment to giving most of the country access to high-speed, secure and reliable internet:
“Pres. Obama has committed to ensuring that 98 percent of the country has access to high-speed wireless broadband internet access. We are finding innovative ways to free up wireless spectrum and are building a state-of-the-art nationwide, interoperable, public safety network.
“President Obama is strongly committed to protecting an open internet that fosters investment, innovation, creativity, consumer choice, and free speech, unfettered by censorship or undue violations of privacy.”
