PITTSFIELD – Mark K. Eddy, president of the Pittsfield High School Class of 2013, can now add graduation speaker to his resume.
The son of Kenneth and Bette Anne Eddy of Pittsfield, he has been involved with the class council for the last three years, which entails a lot of community outreach.
“My favorite memories of high school are all of the things that the class council has done for the community,” he said. “During the past three years – while I have been president, we have made Thanksgiving baskets for families, raised money for the Boston One Fund, raised money to support a PHS family’s heating bill, bought Christmas gifts for children and wrote letters to soldiers, among many other things.”
In the classroom, Mr. Eddy has enjoyed his science classes, particularly AP (Advanced Placement) Physics, taught by Brad Whateley.
“I found it to be the most practical, and I got the most out of it,” he said. “I enjoyed the way Dr. Whateley taught it was very hands-on, and I really understood his approach on many difficult topics.”
Moving forward, Mr. Eddy hopes to take the science knowledge and skills he learned in Pittsfield and expand on them.
“Next year, I am attending Rochester Institute of Technology and majoring in chemical engineering and minoring in engineering management,” he said.
From there, he would like to be a chemical engineer doing research and development at a large-scale company in the South.
“In 10 years, I see myself living down south, in the Carolinas preferably, working as a chemical engineer and hopefully pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree,” he said.
