Rhubarb Festival signage up too long

When the selectmen allow an organization to put up signage, including banners along Main and Walker streets, the promoters should adhere to the rules for the times to put them up and take them down.

Suzanne Pelton, the lead in the Rhubarb Festival program, more than two weeks ago had a good turnout despite the inclement weather, which caused the organizers to go inside the Lenox Library.

However, the sign was still up on Memorial Day and for the remainder of the week.

Thus, when an organization asks for permission, they should be willing to remove the sign by a certain date.

We, as a community, do not want to turn this town into Coney Island and thus, banners and A-frame signs should be limited.

The Berkshire Beacon has been opposed to sandwich board signs unless it is used as a temporary sign by the merchant to await a sign approval from the Lenox Historic District Commission on the building.

Otherwise, collectively, they look TACKY. We, as a community, want to preserve our historic integrity.
