Promo overload

I found it pretty amusing to have the USGA pound us with “While We’re Young” and “Tee It Forward” promos during the U.S. Open in an effort to speed up the game.

They had plenty of opportunity to run their ads because it took five and a half hours for most groups to negotiate Merion’s 18 holes.

If you really want to speed up a round of golf and make each golfer’s experience more pleasant , your Beacon scribe has a better idea. In order for it to catch on, I will have to come up with a fancy name or slogan to get everyone’s attention. How about “Hit and Git?”

What does that mean? First, let me tell you what it doesn’t mean. It does not mean “hit your shot, wipe off your club with your towel, put the head cover back on and place it back in your bag.”

The rules of “Hit and Git” are simple: execute your shot, keep club in hand, get in the cart and go to the ball; when you get to it, you may perform the above maintenance.

This way the group behind you doesn’t have to watch as you clean up after your shot, they can be busy hitting their ball. I don’t know how much time this will save, but it will eliminate aggravating the group behind you.

Pretty simple, try it.

Catching up with Cailin Bullett

What has Cailin BullettĀ been up to since graduating from Colby Sawyer College?

The daughter of former Drury and Worcester State standout Tom Bullett and granddaughter of broadcasting legend Bucky Bullett was named North Atlantic Conference Woman of the Year for her academic and basketball achievements.

She is the only player in program history to record 1000 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists.

Oh yeah, she also recently returned from Italy, where her USA team was 4-1 on a five-city tour.

NBA playoff thoughts

Nobody asked me, but I will give my opinion on the NBA playoffs:
*The officiating was awful.
*I never saw any flopping violations called, but I saw a lot of flopping.
*Ray Allen made the right move leaving Boston.
*Headbands should be outlawed.
*Did I mention the officiating was awful?
*Tim Duncan is a classy guy, too bad his upcoming divorce is going to be a messy one.
*How did Juwan Howard get such a good seat on the Heat bench? His last game played was April 17; he averaged three points and one rebound this season. He was the best dressed cheerleader in the house and also the best paid.
*The officiating made the playoffs a very frustrating watch.
*Magic Johnson provided absolutely no insight to what was going on during the games. Bill Simmons was very credible.
