Lord’s Day

The first thing that I do when the Sunday Berkshire Eagle arrives is to seek out the fine work of Richard Lord in the sports section. If you want to know what is going on in the golf world it would be a good idea to check out his coverage of past, present and future county events.
Among the many sports to write about, golf has to be the most difficult to present an interesting take on because it is so “cut and dried.” This guy won (most of the time Andy Congdon) by x number of strokes and did so by (pick one) putting well, hitting solid irons, keeping the ball in play or getting the ball “up and down” around the greens.
Mr. Lord digs deeper and makes the readers feel that they are actually on the course following the action. Accurate and compelling golf coverage was missing in Berkshire County for many years before Richard Lord arrived on the scene.
There are several outstanding tournaments in the county that draw the best golfers to our area and Richard Lord sees to it that they receive well deserved coverage and the public is kept informed. From juniors and seniors to the studs that play the back tees, if it happens in Berkshire County Mr. Lord is all over it. Check out his columns, as it seems that Mr. Lord does his best work on Sunday.

Nothing is certain except death and taxes. I beg to differ after catching up on some local golf results. Andy Congdon wins Allied Singles, Wyantenuck cops team Allied honors and Berkshire Hills CC dominates Allied Net Division.
Of the top 15 finishers in the net gala, 8 were members of the host club (Berkshire Hills Country Club). I imagine when those tournament scores are posted into the computer for handicap purposes some changes are in order for division placement in upcoming events.

In the Clip and Save Department, as promised, here is the schedule for the upcoming Berkshire County Fall Seniors Series:
Aug 28….Worthington CC, two man scramble
Set 4 …… Skyline CC, two man bramble
Sept 11….Waubeeka, two man scramble
Sept 25 …Egremont  CC, two man scramble
Oct 2 …….Greenock CC, singles
Oct 9 ……GEAA, 4 man scramble
For those 50 and over, call the golf shop no later than the Friday prior to register and reserve a chariot. All events will be 12:30 shotgun starts. If you don’t know the difference between a scramble and a bramble, may I suggest that you take up tennis.
                                                                        ************
Enough already, it is time to stop yelling “get in the hole,” “mashed potatoes,” and other nonsense after a tee shot is hit on the PGA tour. Your friends watching at home know that you are there and that you are a moron, you don’t have to go out of your way to prove it.
Try it at Augusta and you will be removed from the grounds and banned from ever being a patron again.
