Local student to attend art academy
PITTSFIELD – Sixteen-year-old John Buckley will attend Interlochen Arts Academy, a fine arts boarding high school located in Michigan.
Buckley, the son of Tom and Raya Buckley of Pittsfield, will spend his junior year studying theater arts at the academy. Previously, Buckley attended Taconic High School.
In addition to performances at Taconic High School, he portrayed Eric in Barrington Stage Company’s performance of “Lord of the Flies,” Lumiere in the 2012 Youth Theater performance of “Beauty and the Beast” and Dogberry in Shakespeare & Company’s 2011 Fall Festival production of “Much Ado About Nothing.”
Interlochen Arts Academy attracts more than 500 young artists from 40 states and 15 countries. Together, they study music, theater, dance, visual arts, creative writing and motion picture arts in a college-like setting.
While producing more than 250 artistic presentations in the school year, students also master rigorous college-preparatory academics that prepare them to take prominent roles in any professional endeavor.
