Fall into fashion passion, part one

Well, girls, are you ready to talk fashion and the hottest looks this fall? Not only are we going to have an expose on styles from New York, Paris, London and Milan, but let’s dish fashion from a man’s perspective…

Just what does he want to see you sporting this blustery autumn season?

I’m sure it’s not stuff from granny’s closet, but we can don some of her accent furs and shawls to display a modern-vintage look that’s both sophisticated, soft and sexy. Take notes, girls: there’s nothing like fashion that sparks some fiery passion!

Let’s start with New York magazine’s hottest trends and away we go, right from work into play attire with the word to describe this trend –“opulence,” especially when you accessorize with heavily-beaded pieces shown on the runways by Dolce and Gabbana, Balmain and Lanvin.

Oxblood red was the breakout color in New York, while other cities wore winter white (not just limited to before Labor Day anymore, those days are far gone). If you’re bored of the dull solids at work, try a head-to-toe patterned suit, very popular on the European runways.

And according to Marie Claire, burgundy is the new black, along with more winter white – white over white, chickies! Do it right so you don’t end up looking like a snowman.

Leave it to Vogue to borrow a phrase from diva Beyoncé with “Girls who run the world (and where they don’t, perhaps they should)” – the message is empowerment, ladies, with the best designers offering strong and chic.

According to runways across the globe, the vibe is “adult and polished,” with major embellishment, risky geometric prints, rich color and lots of statements to be made with coats and coat dresses. The mood, girls, is imaginative spirit, lots of color, wit and extremism; now we can roll with that!

Glamour has ideas straight from London and Milan fashion weeks: go ahead and “fallify” your bright spring skirts with black basics and a hip leather jacket. This works especially well for date night.

Try a sleeveless dress belted at the waist with your favorite fall ankle boots.

Like Mad Men? Pencil skirts of all different fabrics with a button down sweater and pointy pumps will take you to your era.

Cocktail party pants are back in too, especially if they’re metallic paired with a casual, no-fuss jersey top.

Get out those leather skirts with a pair of color-popping pumps! And – get this – a baseball cap?

If you ask Harper’s Bazaar, granny-chic is in, and so is thoroughly modern military. But remember, too much camo will have you looking like you should be in the battlefield. Think outdoorsy with army greens and khaki.

So as I mentioned your grandmother’s close (note granny-chic), it could be quite useful with a retro mix of floral and lace, knit tweeds and luxe fur accents. Love the furs, and they don’t need to be real.

Moving along to hair and makeup. Gucci says faux bobs curled under topped with bedazzled headbands are on-trend.

Take it from makeup artists at Shiseido, “The rosy cheeks were meant to look like a bloody, wonky flush, like after a morning skiing, an hour in the hot tub or some good sex.”

Marc Jacobs says bright red lips with minimal make up should be paired with polka dots, as it’s meant to look cartoon-ish.

Carolina Herrera wants to see big, voluminous bouffants topped off with a dainty black headband; it’s a cool twist on classic coiffure.

Preen likes aerodynamic hair, this takes up and windswept to a new level.

Tory Burch goes with plenty of fun hairpins, a French twist and headband.

Rachel Zoe says go boho-hippie, hair naturally waved with a single braid on the side.

Jill likes sweet and sexy with lilac eyes and loose waves; take a break from the straighteners, gals, they fry your hair when use too often! This season it’s natural, lovely hair.

Try blue paired with eyeshadows, says Prabal Gurung. To pull it off, use minimal makeup.

So there you have it, plenty of fashion tips for fall, and next week we’ll talk about the men: what they like to see us wear, and then we get to chime in as to what they need! Don’t miss it!

Ciao (For Now) Bella
