Vincent assumes new role in Lenox

LENOX – The board of selectmen are excited about long-time Lenox Department of Public Works (DPW) Superintendent Jeffery  T. Vincent assuming a new role in town government.

“I think Jeff’s going to be a great asset to us,” said Selectman Edward P. Lane, when Mr. Vincent’s new position was discussed at the selectmen’s Oct. 3 meeting.

Mr. Vincent, who has served as superintendent for nearly 17 years, will soon be employed in the newly-created position of capital projects manager. In this capacity, he will supervise at all stages and serve as “clerk of the works” for capital projects commissioned by Lenox’s town government.

He will be retaining the same salary and benefits he currently enjoys as DPW superintendent. The money to pay this salary, however, will now be coming from the town’s capital improvement projects.

Normally, the town sets aside a certain percentage of a capital project’s budget to hire an outside clerk of the works to supervise it. That money will now be going to pay Mr. Vincent, who will assume this role as part of his new position.

“I’m really confident that it’s going to be money really well spent for the town,” said Selectman Lane, who noted Mr. Vincent would also be able to oversee smaller capital projects that wouldn’t normally have a clerk of the works.

“If we’re even on money, it’s a great deal for the town, ’cause we’re getting so much more,” said Selectman John J. McNinch, who indicated the town would actually end up saving money from this arrangement.

“The experience and history that Jeff has in this town is invaluable,” said Board of Selectmen Chairman Kenneth L. Fowler.

“He’s just going to do a…much better job,” said Selectman Lane.

It was also determined that Selectmen McNinch and Lane, along with Mr. Vincent and Town Manager Gregory T. Federspiel, would be interviewing four candidates to replace Mr. Vincent as superintendent of the Lenox DPW. These interviews will be taking place on Thursday, Oct. 11.
