Below is one of Mary Ryer’s charming poems for children:
In winter when it’s snowing
And I should be in bed,
I tiptoe to my window
And I look outside instead.
I cross my fingers, close my eyes—
I wish with all my might,
That it will snow and drift and blow
All through the icy night.
So in the morning when I wake,
I’ll look outside and see,
A ton of snow fell overnight,
I’ve got all day to ski!
Artist also loves cats
When she’s not drawing or writing, one might find Mrs. Ryer tending to her newly adopted cat, Lilly.
She’s a two-year-old tiger cat Mary and Richard Ryer adopted from Purradise in Great Barrington. The attractive feline is still acclimating to life without her kittens and her new home.
Lilly is the third cat the Ryers adopted.
Last month, they lost Lucy, a cat they had for seven years, to cancer. She was a beige, black and white calico.
“She was the nicest animal,” Mrs. Ryer said, adding she still misses her terribly.
Prior to Lucy there was Callie. She was with the family for 15 years and was 17 years old when she died.
