PITTSFIELD – If everything goes as planned, a new superintendent for the Pittsfield Public Schools will be named on Feb. 27, 2013.
At a recent meeting of the Pittsfield School Committee meeting, a timeline to hire someone for the position was established with the help of William Garr, executive vice president of the Beverly, Mass.-based Future Management Systems, the company the committee hired to assist with the superintendent search.
The position will officially be posted on Oct. 31, and all applications are due no later than Nov. 16. Mr. Garr will use that time to gather public input on what they would like to see in the ideal superintendent candidate.
The superintendent search committee will have its first meeting on Nov. 14 and its semi-finalist interviews are scheduled for Dec. 12-13. On Jan. 9, the search committee will recommend finalists to the school committee for public interviews, with the hire of the new superintendent on Feb. 27.
The Pittsfield School Committee approved a salary range of $150,000-$170,000 for the new hire, a noted increase from the $125,000 former superintendent Howard J. Eberwein III received. However, in an effort to keep the budget balanced, Dr. Eberwein never accepted a pay increase in his time with the Pittsfield Public Schools.
He left the district on June 30 and was replaced by Interim Superintendent Gordon L. Noseworthy. Dr. Eberwein has since taken a position as dean of graduate and continuing education at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA).
