Lee Taxi Service

LEE – A new taxi cab service may soon be in operation in the Town of Lee.

Michael Tokoly made a request to the Lee Board of Selectmen at its Oct. 16 meeting for a license for a taxi cab/limousine service.

The proposed hours of operation for his business, Berkshire Taxi Service, are 5 a.m.-11 p.m. on weekdays, 5 a.m.-midnight on Saturday and 6 a.m.-9 p.m. on Sunday.

“Presently I only have one vehicle, but hopefully it will grow in the future,” Mr. Tokoly said in comments to the select board.

He also informed the selectmen that his insurance and licensing was still in the process of being approved.

Currently, only one taxi cab/limousine service, Abbott’s Limousine and Livery Service, operates out of Lee.

Mr. Tokoly also asked the selectmen whether the town had any regulations on the rates he could charge.

“We can check our bylaws,” said Select Board Chairwoman Patricia D. Carlino, who didn’t believe there were any such regulations, but said the matter would be looked into,

“We don’t set the rates that I know of,” said Selectman Gordon D. Bailey.

The selectmen said that they had no problem with the application, and would write out a license, contingent on Mr. Tokoly bringing in his licensing paper work and a certificate of liability.

Mr. Tokoly worked for a taxi cab service, Taxi Co., 10 years ago.

In addition to putting a vehicle on the road as a taxi, a 2000 Suburban, Mr. Tokoly is exploring adding a step van to use as a delivery truck as part of his new business.
