Good to be home

The clouds of life are forming; there may be one or two turns as one goes forward. There is sunlight before the end of the tunnel of life.

Thus, it is good to be home from Berkshire Medical Center, where I spent nearly a week recovering from pneumonia and congestive heart failure. (See letter to David E. Phelps, president and CEO of BMC in The View column this week.)

I am home with my wife, Christine, along with three collies.

Yes, we have a new tri-color collie, named Levi T. Patterson, after my grandfather. The others are Jewel and Maddie.

With age comes health issues. There is no need to expand on those issues at this juncture.

In my absence, the Beacon team put out another edition, worked on putting the first local debate sponsored by The Berkshire Beacon together on Oct. 31 in the Lenox Library for the 4th District state representative race between William “Smitty” Pignatelli (D-Lenox) and Lee Scott Laugenour from the Green party.

The team also put together a collection of stories, editorials and advertisements for the the New England Newspaper Association’s (NENPA) annual Better Newspaper Awards contest. We’ll keep you, our readers, informed as to our progress in getting noted by our peers in the newspaper profession.

The editorial last week gave pause and thus it is time to bring readers and friends up to date. The goal is for The Berkshire Beacon to continue to shine countywide and offer weekly our readers a good product.
