In new poll Scott Brown leads Elizabeth Warren by 1 point
Politico is reporting that Sen. Scott Brown has the slimmest of edges over Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren in Massachusetts, according to a poll released Sunday, contradicting a consensus that Warren had opened up a solid lead.
The UMass-Lowell/Boston Herald poll showed Brown leading Warren among likely voters 49 percent to 48 percent. Warren has held a lead outside the margin of error in four of the seven polls released in the past week.
The pair were tied in a Boston Globe poll, and a poll released by a GOP firm showed Brown with a slight edge.
The last Herald poll, conducted in September, showed Brown with a 4-point edge, indicating movement in Warren’s direction.
While other polls have shown Brown’s favorability slipping, he remains strong here: 54 percent of Bay Staters have a positive opinion of him. The number with a negative opinion has spiked since September, from 29 percent to 39 percent. Those numbers are better than Warren’s 50 percent to 42 percent split.
Warren has a lead among registered voters, 49 percent to 47 percent.
The poll, conducted between Halloween and Nov. 3, has a sample of 956 registered voters and 800 likely voters. The margin of error for likely voters is plus or minus 4.1 percentage points. For registered voters, it is plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
