DPW superintendent search extended

LENOX – The town has decided to extend and expand its search for a new Department of Public Works (DPW) superintendent.

The search was brought on by current DPW Superintendent Jeff Vincent’s decision to move into the newly created position of capital projects manager. In this new role, Superintendent Vincent will be charged with overseeing all of the Town of Lenox’s capital projects at every stage of their development.

After interviewing four applicants, the town narrowed the candidates for DPW superintendent down to two finalists.

Yet, while the Town of Lenox was satisfied with the quality of these two finalists, at least one of them does not have all of the qualifications listed in the town’s initial advertisement. Because of this, although the town is still considering the two finalists, a second wave of advertisements, with a broader criteria for applicants, has been put out.

“Some of the candidates that we got didn’t have those [requirements], so we thought if we were going to consider them we had to open up the field to everybody,” Selectman W. David Roche said at the selectmen’s Nov. 7 meeting.

“We felt that the [initial] ad that we put in for the position was a little limiting as to who applied,” explained Board of Selectmen Chairman Kenneth L. Fowler.

The town has received some new applications as a result of these advertisements and has extended the collection of resumes until Nov. 19. The town plans to set up initial interviews for the new candidates shortly thereafter. A recommendation of a candidate for the select board’s approval, which could be either one of the new candidates or one of the current finalists, is expected to be given in early-to-mid-December.

“We’d like to see a wider range of people to look at,” said Chairman Fowler.
