Give thanks

Hi gals! Today I’m feeling a bit mushy on the inside so if you’re in the mood, then feel free to melt away with me into our many lives, which we should be so grateful for! Life is by far our greatest gift.

Especially now, as our holidays are approaching we are reminded by the lights, the turkey or spiral ham, all the fixins, homemade ravs (raviolis – I’ll explain in a bit), delectable cheesecakes and pumpkin pies and our growing waistlines (oh, by the way, grab your last-minute Twinkies); for me, it’s the crumb cakes (so tasty dipped in tea), laughter of family and friends and our sacred churches illuminated with light of the whole spirit of this festive season.

With these blessings we are also called to mind the many who are less fortunate than we, the victims of Hurricane Sandy who still to this day are living in squalor, no power, loss of homes and possessions and some experiencing the painful grief of losing a loved one. Pray for them or send your good vibes, or thoughts or gifts, whatever it is you believe in, as I’m sure many of you already have.

Allow your thoughts and prayers to fall on the Middle East, where peace is greatly in need. With rockets firing, I can’t imagine the horror.

Speaking of grateful, I’m so thankful for my sis! Not only do I love her to the moon, but we have a blast together drinking red wine and making homemade ravs every year, and our children are like sisters, three sassy girls hanging out on a lazy Saturday afternoon playing piano, doing ballet leaps, cartwheels and back walkovers on our great room rug.

This year we took our “let’s have another glass of wine and pumpkin beer” time, and by the last line of raviolis, we were tipsy and the dough was a touch dry, with a few “rejects,” which are imperfect raviolis in appearance, but still taste great.

Then on Sunday, my girls had their cheer banquet where they received trophies and awards. Oh, how fast do these kids grow! I love every stage with them though and being their best friend.

Of course I still know the line between friendship and motherhood: “It’s time to do your homework!” See?

Anyway I just want to wish you all the happiest of Thanksgivings! Thanks so much for reading Girl 2 Girl.

Have fun with your families and friends, steal that drumstick and hoard those tassies, veg out on football, drink spiked eggnog, watch old movies and just live in the moment, because they only come once a year.

I’d like to take a moment for my mom… I am so thankful for her many gifts.

She always said, “Just be happy,” and she was sooooo right. She loves “An Irish Blessing” and would always write it to us in special notes with her cutesy little smiley-faced hearts.

I miss you…

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rains fall soft upon your fields.
 And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

Ciao Bella
