Search committee formed in GB

GREAT BARRINGTON – With the search for a town manager underway, a new search committee has been formed.

The search committee, as outlined in the town charter, will consist of seven members.

At the most recent meeting of the select board, members discussed who should be on the committee.

“I would say that I feel that no members of this board or town employees should be on that board,” said Selectman Stephen C. Bannon.

Although, not all board members agreed.

“I don’t feel comfortable restricting the members,” said Chairman Sean Stanton to the point of using town employees, yet he agreed no members of the select board should serve on the committee.

Any interested residents of the town should submit a letter of interest to the town manager’s office as soon as possible, but applications will be accepted until Jan. 23.

The board plans to appoint members to the board at its Jan. 28 meeting.

Joining the committee in the search will be the Edward J. Collins Center for Public Management at the University of Massachusetts in Boston, which will serve as the town’s consultant in the search for a new town manager.

A representative of the Collins Center will be in town next Wednesday to conduct interviews with town employees to generate information for use in the search.

Town book sale

In other town news, The Friends of the Library will hold the annual book sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday (Dec. 1) at the Mason Library on Main Street.

Proceeds from the sale will help fund documentary films at both the Mason and Ramsdell libraries, support centennial programs, provide programming supplies and more.

Highlights of the sale include older, collectible books from the Ramsdell Library in Housatonic in worn but readable condition. Many are illustrated or have decorative covers. They will be on sale upstairs with cookbooks and a $1 per item bake sale with contributions from library staff.

The downstairs will be devoted to a multi-category sale, which starts at 8:30 a.m. with a $10 premium for early-birds. That charge is dropped at 10 a.m. For the last hour, from 3-4 p.m., buyers can fill a bag for $6.
