Lenox finds its Christmas tree

LENOX – The search is over, and once again a local businessman has stepped up to donate the town christmas tree in Lenox.

Paul C. Merlino, president of Lenox National Bank, and his wife, Sandra J. Merlino, donated the very tall spruce.

“They are beautiful trees and we have used them for our family as our tree for years,” said Mr. Merlino. “Now they have gotten to be so large that this is a real nice use of them.”

The tree was inspected and approved by the town’s department of public works on Wednesday.

“It is great to get such a nice offer as these trees from someone in town,” said Superintendent of Public Works Jeffrey T. Vincent.

The tree will be on display in the Lilac Park through the holiday with the lighting set for Dec. 7 sponsored by Villager Gifts and the store’s owner, Mr. Jim Terry.

The tree is placed and secured by the town DPW, and then is decorated, along with a lot of downtown Lenox by the Village improvement Committee.

The project of decorating the town is a major project and lots of community members help out. Mr. Dennis G. Field, one of those volunteers and a local house painter, is again helping to decorate with his bucket truck to get decorations up high around town.

“Decorating the village for the holidays is something the Village Improvement Committee looks forward to every year,” said VIC Chairwoman Lynn P. Sutton. “Our volunteers have a great time, and it’s fun to work together pulling out all the decorations and then putting them up.”
