New book and treasure chest for young pirates-in-the-making

One of the best gifts a parent can give to a child is a love of reading.

It’s followed quickly by spending time with the child and fostering creativity.

Imagine being able to give a gift that does all three!

Bonnie Lee Medeiros, a childhood educator from Carver, in the southeastern part of Massachusetts, has been working with kids for 15 years. She knows what they love and what works to capture their attention.

She’s created an interactive book, titled My Pirate’s Tale, which includes places for photos of your own child as a pirate.

In addition, the innovative author includes a real treasure chest with props to go along with the story, such as a pirate booty bag with five gold coins, pirate flag, eye patch, magnetic compass, pirate head bandana, telescope, silver skull ring, six pirate-themed tattoos, a treasure map and more.

The book and treasure chest contents allow the child and parent to personalize and enliven reading time “to achieve fun and enjoyment in a whole new way.”

My Pirate’s Tale includes “10 Things a Good Pirate Should Know,” such as: “To achieve a good pirate smile, chew on some broccoli for awhile. Gnarly, green teeth is what you’ll find, when pieces of broccoli get left behind.”

What a great way to encourarge a child to eat his veggies while engaging in reading at the same time.
