BECKET – It appears Joseph A. Kellogg is back on the job.
Becket Board of Selectmen Chairman Mark L. Karlberg announced Mr. Kellogg will be part-time interim town administrator while a search is underway to replace the recently-removed administrator, Craig Kleman.
A Lenox resident, Mr. Kellogg is the former Sheffield town administrator and recently served as the interim town manager in Lanesborough.
Following a poor performance review, the town decided not to renew the contract of Mr. Kleman.
In a statement Mr. Kleman said, “I believe that I have served this town admirably, but the select board has decided to go in another direction, which is their prerogative.”
Chairman Karlberg explained he felt a review should have happened earlier, but there was no legal misconduct and the change happened after looking over the reviews by the department heads in town.
Mr. Kleman has been receiving over $50,000 a year plus health benefits from the postion he has held since the spring 2011.
Mr. Kellogg will be paid $45 an hour while he fills the job during a search for a permanent replacement.
Next, the select board will begin to accept applications from residents to fill a search committee to review town administrator resumes and make recommendations to the board.
