STOCKBRIDGE – The selectmen have added their approval to plans that will place conservation restrictions on a large piece of property in town.
The land is located across the street from the Berkshire Botanical Garden. The town began the process of purchasing and restricting the $400,000 property in 2009.
The Stockbridge Land Trust and the Laurel Hill Association have joint ownership of most of the land. In June, Berkshire Botanical Garden purchased five acres from the trust for $100,000 and agreed to place the same conservation restrictions on that property.
“You have all done great work to make this happen,” said Board of Selectmen Chairwoman Deborah McMenamy. “It is great that we have these geographic areas to secure and protect.”
The town will now send the documents to the state for final approval. Once that is received the Community Preservation Act funds approved at Town Meeting in 2010 will be released to the land trust.
Bid approved
The town also approved the bid by New England Pipe Cleaning for $22,357 worth of pipe cleaning and inspecting work.
The company beat out one other bid, is approved by the state for the work and has worked in Stockbridge before.
