SHEFFIELD – In the midst of budget season, it’s nice to make time for some of the lighter things in life.
The Southern Berkshire Regional School District is forming a committee to look into improvements to the playground equipment on the upper elementary playground on the Undermountain Elementary School campus.
The committee’s work will start with discussion of ideas for a new playground, with a budget of $30,000 and possible additional fundraising needed. The goal is to have something in place for the 2013-’14 school year.
According to SBRSD Elementary Principal Erin Woodsome, one “out-of-the-box” idea is not to build a new playground, but install a climbing wall in the gym, which could also be used as part of physical education classes. She added students from the outlying schools (Monterey, New Marlborough Central and South Egremont) could come to Undermountain for “special climbing days.”
Once the committee puts together a more concrete idea for the playground funds, a bidding process with several construction companies will begin.
Those interested in joining the committee should email Principal Woodsome at ewoodsome@sbrsd.org or call Elementary Secretary Terry Palfini at (413) 229-8754, ext. 377.
