Healthy Heart Night at Berkshire South

GREAT BARRINGTON – The Critical Care Nurse Team at Fairview Hospital and Berkshire South Regional Community Center will sponsor a Healthy Heart Night for Women on Friday (Feb. 1) from 6-9 p.m. at Berkshire South.

“Far too often we see women admitted to Fairview who have suffered an acute cardiac episode, unaware they had cardiac disease or understanding that women experience different signs of cardiac distress in women. We know women are busy, so we have made this event fun for them to attend,” said Mary Lopez, a CCU nurse who is one of the event organizers.

A free flu vaccination clinic will take place, in addition to information tables, free screenings, massage and exercise opportunities, as well as a series of four mini-lectures to provide women with valuable health information.

One of those speakers is Sophie Veinoglou, RN, Fairview Hospital’s cardiac nurse practitioner, who will speak on women and coronary artery disease, the signs and symptoms women should watch for and when to seek treatment.

Another is Deborah Ball, a local woman who has faced coronary artery disease. She will speak on her personal experience, the unusual signs and symptoms she had and her recovery.

The lectures will be from 6-7 p.m.

The Cardiac Team at Fairview will offer information valuable to all women pertaining to heart disease, the number one killer of women.

The program is free and open to all women in the community.

Hospital staff will offer information stations on specific areas of interest including nutrition, stroke, respiratory care, rehabilitation programs and support. Reiki treatment and chair massages will be offered free of charge. Body composition testing, acupuncture, reiki and smoking information will also be available for free.

The evening will include wine tastings by Domaney’s and samples from Bola Granola of Monterey, as well as many great prizes donated for a raffle by area businesses who support women’s heart health.
