Sometimes a community of residents can come together with ideas to save and improve open space. This was the case last week.
Residents offered many ideas for the open space usage of Lenox Mountain, the Housatonic River around Woods Pond, Kennedy Park, Parson’s Marsh and Post Farm, favored by dog-walkers and hunters.
Organized by the Open Space and Recreation Committee and Town Planner Mary Albertson, the session offered a beginning.
One place that was not mentioned was Veterans Park at the bottom of Walker Street in Lenox Dale, which could be turned into a river front walkway for the community. Parking would be provided next to the Lenox Dale ball field and people would be able to walk across the street into the park and down a revamped path and a newly created path along the river.
This idea was first mentioned by Jeff Vincent, former department of public works head.
Now is the time to add this idea to the community’s input and good will for laying out a plan for promoting open space and a plan to better enjoy the river.
