Tanglewood continues to fill its calendar

LENOX – As Tanglewood looks to continue expanding its non-classical music attractions, several new bookings have been announced.

The Steve Miller Band and the NPR radio program Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me! have been added to the 2013 plans of the venue.

Tickets will go on sale on Feb. 19 for both shows. Tickets for the Steve Miller Band show on Monday, July 29, at 7 p.m. range from $25.50 to $79.50. The Thursday, Aug. 29, taping of the NPR quiz show prices range from $21 to $120. The tickets will be available at tanglewood.org or by phone at 888-266-1200.

The Steve Miller Band has sold more than 30 million records in a career spanning more than 40 years. Known for recording some of the most-played songs on classic rock radio including “The Joker,” “Take the Money and Run” and “Fly Like an Eagle,” Steve Miller is an artist in high demand at venues around the world.

The Steve Miller Band continues its busy touring schedule with upcoming concerts in New Zealand and Australia.

The band has also been back in the studio, after an 18-year break, and Miller released two albums recently – the number one blues album Bingo (2010) and Let Your Hair Down (2011).

Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me! also has a large following to bring to The Berkshires.

Based out of Chicago on WBEZ, the show has a weekly audience of 3.2 million listeners on more than 600 NPR member stations nationwide, including locally on WAMC.

Hosted by Peter Sagal, the Peabody Award-winning radio quiz show offers a fast-paced, irreverent look at the week’s news. Listeners call into the show from around the country to answer quirky quiz questions, presented by Mr. Sagal, a panel of featured humorists and Official Judge and Scorekeeper Carl Kasell, whose voice on your phone answering machine is offered as a prize.

Although none have been confirmed yet for the Tanglewood recording, frequent panelists include authors P.J. O’Rourke and Roy Blount, Jr., comedians including Mo Rocca and Paula Poundstone and figures from the media world including former Boston Globe writer Charles P. Pierce.

Other non-classical music bookings include Melissa Etheridge on June 21 and Jackson Browne on July 4.
