Rep. Pignatelli praises handling of storm

Rep. William “Smitty” Pignatelli (D-Lenox) is proud of how The Berkshires handled the storm.

“I think The Berkshires fared very well,” said Rep. Pignatelli, who noted the hard work put in by local Department of Public Works (DPW) crews. “The fact is I think they did a wonderful job.”

Rep. Pignatelli credited the governor’s travel ban, implemented at 4 p.m. on Friday, as being critical in helping the crews go about their work. However, the representative said, after consulting with DPW heads and town managers, he believes it’s time for the ban to be lifted in The Berkshires.

“I’m hoping that that ban will be lifted,” said the representative, who went on to say that he’d conveyed this to the governor, and he believes it will be lifted soon.

“I think The Berkshires will be the first to get the driving ban lifted,” said Rep, Pignatelli, who expects the word to come down that the ban will be rescinded going from west to east, in a noontime press conference. “[The governor’s] going to be making an announcement, I’m assuming it’s around 12.”

Additionally, Rep. Pignatelli said, although he though the ban was the right decision, keeping it in place in The Berkshires now would not be good for business.

“It’s been a concern on the commerce side of things,” said the representative, noting a number of employees hadn’t showed up for work today because of the storm.
