LEE – Saying that Wednesday night’s girls basketball game between Lee and Pittsfield High was a defensive battle is an understatement.
Lee held Pittsfield to three field goals in the second half before cruising down the stretch, 38-21.
The Wildcats, who were outscored in the third quarter by the Generals 6-4, responded in the fourth quarter by shutting out Pittsfield altogether, outscoring them 14-0.
Gary Wellington’s team has battled hardship both on and off the court this past week yet came out against the Generals fighting both tooth and nail in the first half, thanks to the return of their star forward Young.
Young, who has been out with a shoulder injury, had 11 points and 12 rebounds in the first half as the Wildcats led 20-15 at the break.
Young then took over the fourth quarter as she has so many times this season by scoring 10 of her team’s 14 points in the final frame, hitting on eight of 10 free throws, to finish with an impressive state line of 23 points, 17 boards, five blocks and five steals.
