LeProvost reaches 1,000-point milestone as Wildcats defeat Lenox

LEE – It was a night that will go down in Wildcat history as Jake LeProvost imposed his will on the Lenox Millionaires Friday night to score 26 second half points in front a fanatic home crowd, to become the 57th Berkshire County player to reach the 1,000-point career milestone, as the ‘Cats defeated their cross-town rival, 72-53.

With the Wildcats trailing 32-29 at halftime behind Lenox’s Bailey Patella’s 10 points at the break, the Millionaires used a box-and-one to held LeProvost to six points on off-balance three-pointers and limited chances in the paint.

Coach Dan Korte told LeProvost at halftime that he wanted to get on track he would have to hit the glass.

LeProvost responded by getting two offensive rebounds with put backs, plus an added steal underneath with a layup, in the first three minutes of the second half, to get on track offensively.

And in the final minutes of the third he added a steal with a thunderous dunk, plus a fast break and one layup to give him 17 points at the end of three quarters.

At the start of the fourth, he scooped up a defensive rebound and went coast-to-coast for the layup, to put his team up 56-38. LeProvost followed that up with a power post move underneath to give him 21 points with just over five minutes remaining.

With the Wildcats up comfortably 58-44, LeProvost’s teammates were consciously looking for their star to add to his point total to reach the magical mark.

Lenox responded by double-teaming and even triple teaming LeProvost as he tried desperately to get off quality shots in the final five minutes.

The Lenox plan backfired as LeProvost was able to gather blocking fouls from the overplay and get to the line, hitting five of six free throws on 1-and-1’s as the Millionaires were over the foul limit.

With LeProvost at 29 points after his free-throws, his teammates found him for an open three-pointer at the top of the key with 1:54 remaining, which he confidently drained for his 1,000th career point.

“I got to give credit to my teammates they were working hard getting me open with picks – getting me the shot,” LeProvost said.
