‘Happy Days’ at Miss Hall’s School

PITTSFIELD – This weekend, to travel back in time to 1950s Wisconsin, go no further than the Elizabeth Gatchell Klein Arts Center at Miss Hall’s School.

The MHS Theater Ensemble is putting on a production of the musical Happy Days, based on the beloved television series of the same name, which aired from 1974 to 1984. The musical was written by the television show’s creator, Garry Marshall.

MHS senior Kyanna Joseph plays the iconic role of Arthur “The Fonz” Fonzarelli, made popular by Henry Winkler on the TV show.

“It was very strange at first because The Fonz used to be quite popular back then,” Miss Joseph said of taking on the part.

MHS Theater and Dance Teacher Jennifer Jordan, who is directing the play, said the popularity of Happy Days helped the performers learn more in developing their characters.

“These are iconic characters,” Ms. Jordan said.

She also said Happy Days‘ popularity was a major reason for choosing it as the school’s musical.

“I was a big fan of the TV series as a teenager,” she said. “And these girls have been begging me to do something like [this].”

In addition to Miss Joseph, the show stars sophomore Maggie Meisberger as Richie Cunningham, senior Janelle Barnes as Pinky Tuscadero, freshman Natalia Soborski as Potsie Webber and junior Asata Evans as Ralph Malph.

Supporting players include junior Kelsey Rich as Joanie Cunningham, senior Sutton Moore as Arnold Delvecchio, sophomore Anna Durning as Chachi Arcola and sophomore Ryn Nason as Lori Beth Allen.

The performances take place on Friday (Feb. 22) and Saturday (Feb. 23) at 8 p.m., with a 3 p.m. matinee on Sunday (Feb. 24). Tickets are $5 and can be reserved by calling (413) 395-7108.
