Harrison named to high post

GREAT BARRINGTON – Robert E. Harrison, AIA, principal of Harrison Design Associates at 72 Main St., was elected to the board of directors of the Western Massachusetts Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (WMAIA).

The WMAIA promotes excellence in architecture through professional development, community outreach and the celebration of architecture in our region.

Election to the board of directors is based upon an architect’s outstanding contributions to the field.

“I’m pleased to be a part of WMAIA’s board,” stated Mr. Harrison. “I look forward to working closely with the executive committee to further the organization’s mission.”

Mr. Harrison is a registered architect in Massachusetts and holds architectural licenses in Vermont, Connecticut and New York. He has been a LEED Accredited Professional since 2004, the first in Berkshire County, and holds dual degrees in architecture and fine arts from the Rhode Island School of Design.

Prior to establishing Harrison Design Associates in 2005, an award-winning architectural design firm in Great Barrington, he was the founding principal architect of Blueline Design in Great Barrington from 1991 to 2005. Harrison Design Associates is a diversified design practice that includes large- and small-scale commercial, institutional and municipal projects, community-based planning and residential projects.

Harrison is a board member of the WordXWord Festival and is a commissioner on the City of Pittsfield’s Green Commission.
