New Marlborough rabies clinic
NEW MARLBOROUGH – The New Marlborough Volunteer Fire Company is helping promote pet health in The Berkshires.
A rabies clinic will be held at the New Marlborough Fire Station on Norfolk Road in Southfield on Sunday, March 17 from 10 a.m. to noon. Massachusetts law requires all dogs, cats and ferrets to be vaccinated against rabies.
Attendees are encouraged to bring, if possible, proof of their pets’ most recent rabies vaccinations, which will determine if the animals are eligible for one- or three-year vaccines. The cost is $10 per vaccination.
New Marlborough Town Clerk Kathy Chretien will also be on hand to issue dog licenses.
Pet owners are encouraged to partake in the bake sale going on during the clinic.

Kindergarten open houses
SHEFFIELD – All parents interested in their children attending the Southern Berkshire Regional School District are invited to go to the four elementary schools’ open houses, happening over the next few days.
Undermountain Elementary School will be open for kindergarten classroom visits today (March 7) from 1-2 and 5-6 p.m. On Friday (March 8), South Egremont will hold an open house for kindergarten and first grade familes from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
On Saturday (March 9), prospective early kindergarten and kindergarten families are encouraged to visit Monterey School from 10-11:30 a.m. Finally, New Marlborough Central School will hold its open house on Tuesday (March 12) at 1 p.m. for pre-kindergarten, early kindergarten and kindergarten families.
On Tuesday, March 19, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten registration for the SBRSD will take place. Children who will turn five years old on or before Sept. 1 are eligible to enroll for kindergarten; children who will turn five between Sept. 2 and Dec. 31 are eligible for early kindergarten. Parents of children living in Alford, Ashley Falls, Egremont and Sheffield can register at Undermountain, while parents with children in Monterey and New Marlborough can register at New Marlborough Central. Registration hours at both schools are from 7:30-9:30 a.m., 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2:30-4:30 p.m.
Parents should bring the following with them to register: a birth certificate, report of physical examination, dates/certificates of immunization (Diptheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Polio, Hepatitis B, Chicken Pox) and proof of residency.
