Lawn Doctor franchise run by Pittsfield native

Pittsfield native Nick Mangiardi recently purchased the local Lawn Doctor franchise.  The franchise was up for grabs after former owner Phil Rennie of Lenox operated it for approximately 21 years throughout Berkshire County.

Enter Nick and his wife, Deanna.

At 65, Nick wasn’t ready for retirement and searched long and hard for a business where he could work hard for six months of the year, still have time for some golf and spend a couple of the winter months in Florida sunshine.

According to Mr. Mangiardi, he doesn’t feel his age; he likes to remain active and still wanted to work. He calls Deanna his backbone, crediting her with taking on all the computer work early mornings before heading off to her own job and being fully supportive of his endeavor.

In fact, Deanna worked the long, hard hours at the recent Berkshire County Home Show, alongside her husband.

Mr. Mangiardi was raised on a large  farm on Outer Pecks Road in Pittsfield, which is now a subdivision. In his late teens, he drifted away from the farm and into General Electric, where he spent 10 years as a lead.

This wasn’t for him, so he, his dad and two brothers went into business, he said.

They formed Mangiardi Brothers Trucking and for 38 years operated a trucking and transportation company transporting hazardous waste. Last year, the company was sold, and Nick retired, for a short time.

Nick searched long and hard for a business that would be just the right fit. He found that fit in Lawn Doctor.
