Sullivan Station entertainment license extended

LEE – Sullivan Station’s entertainment license has been extended for the rest of the year.

Sullivan Station’s current entertainment license was initially granted in the face of some fierce opposition.

Sullivan Station’s 2013 license was objected to by Robert and Olga Healey, owners of the neighboring Chambery Inn, based on bad experiences they’d had with some of the concerts held at Sullivan Station in 2012.

Sullivan Station’s ownership responded to these objections by modifying their entertainment license request, saying they would only be hosting acoustic music with amplified vocals and the music would stop at 11:30 p.m.

While the Healeys still opposed granting the license, the selectmen voted to approve it for a three-month period, after adding the condition the police would be notified every time an evening performance was held there.

No such contention was visible at the most recent Lee selectmen’s meeting, which saw this three-month license extended for the rest of the year.

“Upon checking with the police department…there’s been no complaints whatsoever, noise or otherwise,” said Attorney Don Hunter, representing Sullivan Station.

“If there is a problem, they can come back to us anyway,” said Selectman Gordon Bailey. “I don’t have a problem with this [approving the license].”

“My only concern is that it’s been winter. It’s not been…the nice weather when the doors are open and people are milling outside,” said Lee Board of Selectmen Chairwoman Patricia Carlino.

Still, the chairwoman didn’t oppose the renewal.

“I guess I don’t have a problem renewing this cause there haven’t been any…problems,” said Chairwoman Carlino, who noted the police department could still shut down any event that got out of control.

Those present raised no objections to extending the license, and the selectmen unanimously voted to do so.
