Praise for Ventfort Hall

Recent CPC meetings and newspaper coverage seems to me to be a bit biased toward emphasizing the as yet un-remedied building code issues at Ventfort Hall.

Ventfort Hall is a wonderful historic structure that is right in the center of
Lenox, and is, therefore, a great tourist draw and source of enjoyment for local residents.

When the small, dedicated group of volunteers stepped in to take on the challenge of saving Ventfort Hall 16 years ago, the roof was literally falling in.

Since that time, roofs, walls and utilities have been returned to
functionality. Many building code issues have been addressed – often at
the cost of historic correctness and aesthetics.

I am, in no way, suggesting safety issues be overlooked. I am just suggesting that the bias should be in favor of how far Ventfort Hall has come with very limited town or state financial aid, high operating expenses (think of your home heating bills times 10!) and need to continue to invest in restoration and
building infrastructure.
