SHEFFIELD – Without much fuss, the fiscal year 2014 budget for the Southern Berkshire Regional School District (SBRSD) has been approved to go forward to town meetings.
The SBRSD School Committee unanimously voted (with H. Dennis Sears absent) to approve the FY ’14 budget of $14,634,561.
“I want to thank everybody who…put this together,” said School Committee Member Vito Valentini.
Of that total, $13,085,151 makes up the operating budget, the transportation budget is $1,130,610, and the capital budget is $418,800.
After state and federal funding, a total of $11,723,465 will be assessed to the district’s five member towns (Alford, Egremont, Monterey, New Marlborough and Sheffield).
To continue their support of this budget, members of the school committee plan to attend as many of the town meetings as possible to ensure it is approved.
Looking forward
In moving right along after budget season, the school committee members are now preparing to fully address the Elementary Task Force suggestions presented to them last December.
The committee will be reviewing the suggestions at its April 11 meeting and is considering setting up a retreat or working meeting to further discuss the task force’s work and strategic planning for the district as a whole.
“I feel a desire and a need to go through some kind of process with this group,” said School Committee Member Jennifer E. Sahn.
