Taste of Community fundraiser a success

GREAT BARRINGTON – Local businesses have again partnered with a local non-profit to raise needed funds in the region.

Berkshire South Regional Community Center (BSRCC) recently held its annual Taste of Community fundraiser. The event was held to raise funds for the center’s free community supper program.

More than $3,000 was raised at this year’s event, which had the most successful turnout to date.

The spirit of the evening was that of generosity in support of the center’s Community Suppers.

There was a strong community connection through vendors and merchants and participants alike.

Seventeen different local eateries, wine vendors and breweries – Alta Wine Bar, Dining with Annie, Bell and Anchor, Berkshire Co-Op Market,  Big Elm Brewing, Castle Street Café, Chez Nous, Cork ‘N Hearth, Domany’s Discount Liquors, Fiori Restaurant, Great Barrington Bagel Company, Guido’s Fresh Marketplace, Home Sweet Home Doughnut Shoppe, John Andrews Restaurant, Plaza Package, SoCo Creamery and SoMa Catering – provided samples to a record number of more than 200 friends, volunteers, board members and patrons of BSRCC.

The Community Supper program started in January 2009 as a monthly spaghetti supper prepared by staff and volunteers that provided a platform for healthy social connections. Since then, the center has served well over 3,600 meals per year to individuals coming from a diverse economic background.

“These local chefs and restaurants, who provide their invaluable expertise to the center, allow for the center to serve a delicious, nutritious and healthy meals to the community,” said Jaime M. Sayers, the marketing manager for BSRCC.

More intriguing is that since the days of staff and volunteers gathering in the kitchen to stir the sauce, dozens of area chefs and restaurants have joined in to volunteer their talents, and the program has expanded to serving meals on a weekly basis.
