Time Warner Cable 10-year agreement should be denied

A series of events, including the Five-Town Cable Committee’s decision to remove the clause of unlimited installation of cable within the five communities of Lee, Lenox, Stockbridge, Great Barrington and Sheffield and put a limit of 250 feet from the roadway, takes away our goal to get service to each home.

Just for the record, the original contract said that anyone in a community served by cable was to be installed FREE or not charged more than the regular installation fee by Time Warner Cable (TWC).

TWC is not meeting the customer needs:

-Bad remote control for TV, even with upgraded service

-Cutting off WCVB-TV, Channel 5, Boston programming – take the lead, we are not part of the Albany market.

Thus, we demand Channel 5’s full programming as Massachusetts residents. Market share does not influence votes or the denial of commonwealth rights.

-Disavow benefit of pre-pay for 13th month free. (I prepay because I don’t want their literature coming to me with a bill.)

According to Albany’s Times-Union (Nov. 15, 2012), a class action suit has been filed over the $3.95 monthly modem fee, which the lawsuit alleges TWC’s customer agreements does not allow.

The time has come for public scrutiny of the issues, and any one of these issues is enough for the selectmen to refuse to honor the proposed franchise contract at this time; The Berkshire Beacon calls for public scrutiny of the issues and advocates for a customer service location (Lee) to give customers a place to file their complaints and  get results – not the current operation of offering lip service and a place to pay one’s bill.
