LENOX – With an upcoming vote at town meeting over funding for the Belvedere lawsuit, the plaintiffs in the suit are releasing many pages of information on a their new website.
“In light of the fact that the town has already spent $18,000 on this suit, I think the town has the right to know what happened,” said Citizens Advocacy for All member Sonya Bykofsky.
According to the group, the site is there to uncover “attempts made to conceal facts and paper over violations.”
The site, kennedyparkbelvederefacts.com, is expected to be live Friday. The Berkshire Beacon was given exclusive access to the site before the launch.
The Belvedere was constructed in honor of the late Dr. Jordan Fieldman, a prominent physician who practiced at Berkshire Medical Center, by his father Michael Fieldman.
Opponents contested that the Belvedere was a private memorial on public land, ruined the overlook, was improperly approved and should be removed. Supporters, however, countered that the Belvedere was appropriate and should stay.
Much of the content on the site covers the discussions the town had over Lenox’s Scenic Mountain Act.
While the town initially denied that the act applied to The Belvedere, the Lenox Conservation Commission ended up determining that it did.
The site runs through the timeline of the controversy, from the first letter from Mr. Fieldman to the committee requesting the placement of a plaque to honor his son through the most recent motions filed by both sides last fall.
This timeline is accompanied by meeting minutes, agendas, email correspondence and even video of meetings that discuss the monument.
