The double disaster

As they say in life, bad news comes in three.

During the last week:

-A fire at the Curtis Hotel in Lenox displaced residents and caused major damage, estimated to be a half million dollars.

-An explosion at the Boston Marathon where three people were killed and as many as 171 people were injured in a Patriot’s Day climax – which turned the town upside down.

This is the month of many past incidents from Waco to Oklahoma to the shooting at Virginia Tech, etc.

Tragedy is outweighing the American dream and events like these pull our communities together and show the American resolve to do better to protect our neighbors and friends.

While our own fire in Lenox did not reach the level of others, the allegation that a person started the fire who lived in the hotel is unsettling, since it left some 40 homeless.

The massacre at the marathon leaves many people wondering what was the purpose to kill and maim others, resulting in loss of limb(s).

Maybe Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley, a Boston mayoral candidate, said it best: “That’s what Americans do in times of crisis. We come together and we help one another. Moments like these, terrible as they are, don’t show our weakness, they show our strength.”

Whether it be a displacement of people in Lenox due to a fire that was spotted by Jay Baver, a passerby on the street, or the bomb-laden shrapnel that maimed 171 people and killed three in Boston, the sense of this happening in April on one hand is bewildering and on the other hand with a half million people in Boston on Patriot’s Day gives us cause to pray, support those in need and seek justice for those who would take our lifestyle away and force us to live here under different rule.

Our patriotic duty is outlined in the U.S. Constitution to protect and provide for our neighbors and to provide the guarantees for a better tomorrow.
