Golf for a good cause

STOCKBRIDGE – Looking to break out your racket or clubs and help local libraries at the same time?

The 18th Annual Stockbridge Library-Lenox Library Golf and Tennis Challenge is being held at the Stockbridge Golf Club on Monday, June 24 and gives you just that chance.

The event’s planning committee, chaired by Stephen Peters from the Lenox Library and Starbuck Smith from the Stockbridge Library, has worked through the winter months to ensure this year’s event will be every bit as successful as in the past and is currently finalizing plans for the event, a springtime tradition in The Berkshires.

All of the proceeds from this event will benefit the Stockbridge and Lenox libraries.

Golf participants will start the day’s events with a light lunch followed by a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start of the teams of four who will be vying for prizes in the categories of low gross score, low net score, closest to the pin and straightest drive.

For the first time, this year’s tournament will also include a doubles round-robin style tennis event for both men and women.  At 2 p.m., tennis players will participate in play on clay courts with prizes awarded to top scorers.

All will gather for a cocktail dinner buffet and awards ceremony featuring a cash bar and the awarding of many raffle prizes.

All members of the community are encouraged to support these local libraries by purchasing raffle tickets – one for $5 or six for $25.  They can be purchased at both libraries or from library board members.

Raffle ticket holders do not need to be present at the drawing to win the raffle items, which include a cocktail cruise for six on the Stockbridge Bowl, a stay for two with breakfast at The Red Lion Inn, a Crane stationary assortment, a two-hour horseback riding session for two, golf outings, gift certificates to area restaurants and gift baskets.  More raffle items are being accepted for the drawing.
