SHEFFIELD – The selectmen unanimously supported the Berkshire School in its desire to have the town join the Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI) to look at the town’s impact on the environment.
Over 1,200 cities, towns, counties and their associations worldwide comprise ICLEI’s membership.
The Berkshire School offered to buy the climate control software from ICLEI to then use it in classes and share their findings with the town.
“I see this as a benefit to the town,” said Selectwoman Rene C. Wood. “I cannot see any problems for the citizens or the town.”
ICLEI is an international association of local governments as well as national and regional local government organizations who have made a commitment to sustainable development.
ICLEI provides technical consulting, training, and information services to build capacity, share knowledge, and support local government in the implementation of sustainable development at the local level.
For Sheffield, the ICLEI will be working with Berkshire School to use data on energy usage and climate change as part of a class.
Resignation
Barbra Fletcher has resigned as the assistant senior center director. Her last day will be Oct. 12. Ms. Fletcher has held the post for more than 15 years.

“No one wants to take a medical leave and I am sure glad to be back,” said Selectwoman Hannum.
