Taconic valedictorian reflects on high school experiences

PITTSFIELD – Taconic High School senior Cara M. Partridge, daughter of Daniel and Sally, has been named the class of 2013’s valedictorian.

Reflecting on her high school experiences, Miss Partridge told The Beacon her favorite class teacher was Angela Johansen, who teaches Spanish.

“You can tell that she really cares about the kids as individuals,” Miss Partridge said.

As for one of the stand-out moments of her high school years, she cited a lacrosse victory over Mount Greylock.

“Last year, our lacrosse team…beat Mt. Greylock for the first time in years,” she said. “It’s nice to have that sense of accomplishment, something you can work toward as a team.”

After graduation, Miss Partridge will be heading to Bentley University in Waltham in the fall. She plans on majoring in actuarial science.

“I’ve always been really interested in math,” she said.

She sees herself becoming an actuary, which was recently named one of the best careers of 2013. Actuaries typically work in the insurance field, determining financial information.

“You have to pass a long series of tests [to become an actuary],” Miss Partridge said.

Around the time her 10-year high school reunion takes place, she sees herself having a life outside of western Massachusetts.

“I’d like to be…working in Boston, living there and maybe having a dog,” she said.
