The D word, Facebook and our humanity, oh my

Oh my is right… it’s a word that should never be uttered in a marriage and yet, in a rare moment our tempers flare and it’s out there, never what we expected, too harsh and so follows a tear.

Darn that Walt Disney ingraining in our pretty little heads that we will ride off and always live happily ever after on a bed of clouds with roses and giant sunbeams and hearts all aglow.

Not that we don’t experience that type of euphoria throughout – how we do and it’s lovely, it’s just that it wasn’t disclosed that it’s not always the wicked queen or stepmother we have to worry about, but sometimes the nemesis is ourselves, our spouses or significant others, the betrayal of their hearts and surprisingly even our own.

It’s somewhat of a disappointment in humanity when we find such a grey area, don’t you think? At least we were warned about good vs. evil. Which side are you on? Can we help it sometimes when we fall a bit on the dark side?

You get there and you just know something doesn’t feel right: best to head toward the light.

I received the strangest friend request on my Facebook account yesterday, that I didn’t ask for, again, and it’s not the first time my account seems whacky.

Curiously, I went to look at who this person or organization was (with name sounding like a magic spell). I click on to profile and there’s no recognizable face, just a full moon against a blood-red background – okay, creepy.

What totally sent chills was the status reports were clearly that of an evil nature speaking of another bible – definitely not mine – with that ominous symbol you see in devil-worshipping films.

Now, how did this happen? I learned how to block anyhow, but seriously, what kind of people are hacking into our accounts anyway? Facebook is just plain trouble lately.

Sadly, it has been the culprit of  many dissolved relationships. How did we let it get this far? I know a few couples who are allowing it to ruin their love, and for what? Why?

This technology readily invites us into our humanity which can be a good and positive tool, but there’s two sides: just like a gun can protect us, it can also be our demise, both enabling us to engage in our human flaws.

It’s up to us to know how to use each correctly so that they benefit us and don’t destroy us. But can we do it? And are each putting us to the ultimate test? One we can’t always recognize until it’s too late?

I think as our civilization grows, industries prosper and technology increases, so will our boundaries of  humanity in which we have to take action to keep our morals and the philosophies we value intact.

These are my thoughts and I’m sure you have your own, but isn’t it something to really think about? Can all this lead to our ruin?

Not if we strive everyday to learn from our previous mistakes and the errors of others, and not if we keep our heads and our hearts in the right places and above the water.

Guns will kill, but they will also protect and keep us safe. And social networks will hurt relationships, but they will also ignite them. So what will it be?

It’s all on us and will we pass the test?

Ciao Bella
