PITTSFIELD – The city has taken another step to ensure its place as the “hub of The Berkshires.”
“Let’s open this beautiful visitors center,” Pittsfield Mayor Daniel L. Bianchi said just before participating in the center’s ribbon-cutting ceremony.
In addition to the mayor, Berkshire Regional Transit Authority (BRTA) Director Gary Shepard, Pittsfield Tourism Commission Chair Janet Brennan and Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) Director Sheila Pia were all on hand for the ribbon-cutting.
“This visitors center is an invaluable resource for all our guests,” said Ms. Brennan, who is also director of food, beverage and special events at the Crowne Plaza.
The new Pittsfield Visitors Center is located in a storefront in the Joseph Scelsi Intermodal Transportation Center at 1 Columbus Ave., home of the BRTA and the local stops for Amtrak trains and Peter Pan buses.
The new center, staffed through RSVP, will be open year-round Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
“RSVP volunteers are delighted in opening the visitors center,” Ms. Pia said. “Our volunteers have a passion for helping people in many, many ways.”
