PITTSFIELD – Next week will feature more than just fireworks. The Berkshires will boost a very full social calendar, including at least one event that will feature some furry friends.
You can even meet animals from around the world at Berkshire Museum during the “Animals Up Close: The African Serval Cat” program, presented by the Granite State Zoo, formerly known as the W.I.L.D. Center an Zoological Park of New England, on Saturday, July 6 at 1 p.m.
The Granite State Zoo is a federal/state-licensed wildlife exhibitor out of New Hampshire and will be bringing many interesting animals to town.
Attendees can learn about different species outside of The Berkshires’ backyard and the efforts taken to protect the habitats of these creatures at this live animal program.
Tickets for this program are $15 for adults and $8 for children; museum member admission is $5 for an adult and $3 for a child; children three and under are free, and organizers explained that full museum admission is included.
Museum visitors will encounter animals such as the African serval cat, a wild cat similar to a cheetah, but with longer legs, a small head and large ears; the Moluccan cockatoo, a very intelligent bird known for its white-pink feathers and the ability to mimic when in captivity; the black and white Argentine tegu, a very active reptile found in both tropical and temperate climates; and the red fox, an intelligent and cunning creature found all across the globe.
