Signs from the angels

Do you believe in angels?

We live in the country where wildflowers bloom everywhere and anywhere, and I love their unexpected “presents.”

They grow in barren regions where no water flows, and in mucky swamps, their vibrant colors are visible with a distant glance.

These puzzles of nature just show up wherever and whenever, some with a regal countenance and others so sweet, you could cry.

In my eyes, the sweetest is the daisy, symbolic of innocence, gentleness, purity and loyal love.

It’s been about a fortnight (close to two weeks, I love to use old English terms) that the hill our house sits on is miraculously covered with their simple loveliness.

The chickens run through and hide in them and a wood cock sat for a rest the other evening – very cool.

Where did they come from as they cover every square inch and are popping up wildly like little messengers? White and free flowing in the wind, “Hey look at me!” they shout.

And to top it off to really get our attention, we couldn’t figure out where this musky scent was coming from, so we started asking the questions. Did you forget your deodorant? Or could it be the dog’s poop wafting through the breeze? Maybe a chicken laid an egg where we can’t find it? Oh no, not the septic!

Where in “heaven” is that smell coming from? And then, while standing in front admiring the city of them, I picked one and there it was, that smell that stood out and made us take notice.

It’s been hitting me little by little that those daisies are a sign. Do you believe in signs? Seems they’re all around us if we allow our hearts to see them.

“Angels are everywhere.”

I remember one cold autumn night, the sadness was palpable. I stayed up with my NaNa in the nursing home. She had just stopped eating. I tried to give her juice, she took a tiny sip, but not enough; it’s like she was saying no more.

As I sat by her bedside her temperature rose higher and higher, and her skin began to mottle. Emotions took over as I went to gaze out the window asking God to take good care of her.

When I returned to her bed there was a unusual knot tied in the corner of her sheet. She was unresponsive now, and I asked the nurse if she had tied the sheet that way. I thought perhaps it was a laundry thing.

“No, but we see this all the time just before one of our residents die,” she replied,  “it is said that an angel ties a knot in the sheet to swaddle and carry them up to heaven.”

I could see my NaNa floating higher and higher in the arms of an angel.

I knew she was going to dance with my NooNoo again. What amazing dancers they were all dressed on a Saturday night.

It was surreal, tears fell and my body didn’t feel grounded, but alas… she was going home.

Have you ever received a sign? I’m sure many of you have each experienced your own, and did they carry with them a message? Was there something inside you and you knew you had been touched by one?

Signs of an angel

Sensation: A sense of warmth or a particular color or scent that you associate with angels or a loved one pops up.

Shapes in nature: Leaves, rocks, snow, shadows and even clouds form in the shape of angels.

Rainbows: The rarest of all is the fire rainbow.

Names, jewelry, clothing: Anything with the name angel on it. It could even be an article in a weekly newspaper.

Music: When an angel is near, we often hear music.

Take heart, for if you’re in need, we are in the arms of our angels… and one day to fly away from here.
