Hot tresses

The word is out, girls. Tousle-tousle-tousle, especially with this heat and humidity.

And, by the way, rain-rain-rain, please, please go away, it’s summer now and the big, blue sea is calling us today.

My flowers loved it for a while, but now the leaves on my Bleeding Heart are a lovely shade of yellow, and if you garden, you must know what that means: too much H2O.

And with too much of that in the air what happens to our hair? Hello frizz, hello total unmanageability, hello what-the-heck-is-this hair day.

But lucky for us, our day of independence is here, and when those fireworks start exploding, we’ll look fabulous and feminine in these boho chic, sexy, romantic and goddess-like styles out there to rock the holiday and the rest of this hot season.

Let’s ask Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan and Glamour magazines for their expertise in taming our tresses. Here for you is a rundown of the three:

-Starting with short hair, part it way to the side, and rake fingers through for a laidback, sensual look.

-Relax and move your loose bun down to the base of your neck, letting loose flyaways in the wind or tucked behind ears.

– Revive the day-before blow out with bounce and movement by using a large barrel curling iron, and voila.

-For a modern day Aphrodite appearance, take that long hair and braid a section by your ear, then pin it around your head, and you won’t need a diamond tiara, as you have been crowned.

Also try a freestyle braid twisting around your head to frame your face without making it uniform, no worries. Or go loose and down to the side for a romantic feel.

-Catch eyes with the ripped ponytail by gathering your hair in a ponytail and adding a few hair ties all the way down, pulling each section out at the sides, creating a curvy, fun shape.

-When you’re doing your blow-out, twist some pieces around your brush and let the ends fall any way they wish for a casual coolness.

-Let your hair dry natural in a bun, then let it fall, and you’ll have loose waves and no split ends. Tousle and go.

-Or leave your hair up like a ballerina. Make a high ponytail, twist around and bobby pin in place, then add some oil to tame frizz. So pretty.

-Marcel waves look all the more chic when left a little undone.

-Twist ponytail into an updo, then pin into a geometric shape and turn your hair into modern art.

-Braid wet hair in one-inch sections from ear down, air dry and release.

– A little purposeful frizz can be sexy, just air dry without combing, making ringlets.

– The tumbling bun is a messy updo and the ultimate style to keep your tresses out of your face and still look sexy.

There you are. And I love that so many of these styles are effortless and do not require a blow dryer.

After all it’s summer… time to be carefree, blowing in a salty breeze or climbing toward a picturesque view on a high mountain top – whatever you need to free your mind and awaken your soul, all while having healthy and happy locks.

Ciao Bella
