Record earnings at Pittsfield book sale

PITTSFIELD – The three day summer book sale sponsored by  Friends of the Berkshire Athenaeum and held last weekend, set a new record, bringing in a preliminary total of $11,800, said Nancy McNabb, book sale chair.

“I can hardly believe it,” she said of the money raised.  “It shows that organization and helping customers pay off.”

The first evening of the sale, for Friends members only, raised $5,300. Anyone can become a member of the Friends. Individual membership fees are only $10.

The second day, a total of $4,100 was raised. The final day of the sale, book lovers bought $2,400 worth of books, CDs and DVDs.

Mrs. McNabb publically thanked all sorters, donors and customers.

The next book sale will be held in November, just in time for holiday buying.

All proceeds raised by the book sales go directly back into the library to help purchase needed items and to help with ongoing programs for the public.
