The show in Pittsfield

The ad reads:

Pittsfield Suns
The Best Part of Summer
Not just baseball…but family fun.

Wow, was that the truth. If you want a great, family experience while watching a talented young  baseball team give 100 percent, experience the show at Wahconah Park.
You have heard the expression “Never a dull moment.” Well, that is what you get, non-stop from start to finish.
When the action on the field stops, that is when the hard working Suns interns take over. If you want entertainment, take in a game soon and often.

If you have your heart set on a weekend  afternoon of entertainment and the Suns game gets rained out, we have a suggestion that will provide as much excitement and thrills as a ball game at Wahconah Park.

Plan B: Get there early and find a safe location for your vehicle and watch the show in the parking lot at Guido’s Fresh Marketplace in Lenox.
I once heard a lady waiting at the meat counter say, “Why don’t the local people do their shopping during the week?”
An appropriate local rebuttal could be, “What? And miss the show?”

West Springfield native and column favorite L.A. Dodger Chris Capuano is having a roller coaster season.
Lately, it has been feast or famine for the veteran lefthander. After two starts where he pitched 11 scoreless inning with no walks, he got rocked in his next two, giving up 13 runs and 17 hits in eight innings.
He then bounced back to pitch into the seventh inning giving up no runs or walks and had eight strikeouts.
Over his career, the one-time all-star has averaged over seven strikeouts per nine innings of work.

Speaking of the Pittsfield Suns, Berkshire County’s own John Kinne looks awful smooth patrolling  shortstop for the locals.
John is also swinging a consistent bat as of late; he must be getting some tips from his grandfather, Duke Lahart of Lenox.

As the season rolls on, the Suns may be looking for some depth in the pitching department. The scuttlebutt around the dugout was that they may be looking at former St. Joe fireballer Kevin “Mondo” Connolly to see if he has some life left in that right arm.

In the “faces in the crowd” department,  Pittsfield High School legend and former Red Sox farmhand Russ Quetti was taking a lot of notes during the recent Suns-Brockton matchup.
We can’t mention smooth shortstops without including Quetti in the equation.
