PITTSFIELD — Jazz Vespers, a free sunset evening prayer services featuring jazz improvisation, singing and silence, will return to Zion Lutheran Church, 74 First St. in Pittsfield, on September 5.
The contemplative evenings begin at 6 p.m.
The musicians call themselves the Theodicy Jazz Collective.
Several members of the group performed recently at a special jazz brunch at MadJack’s BBQ on North St.
The sounds of saxophone, piano, bass and drums spilled out onto the street, livening up that section ofdowntown Pittsfield.

Inside the restaurant, guests feasted on crème brulet French toast, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, bacon, brisket, hushpuppies with honey butter and on and on into culinary heaven.
Performing at the brunch were Marisa Massery, vocalist; Andrew Barnett, on piano; Will Cleary on sax, Jake Robinson on drums and Andy Wrba, on bass.
